James is a solicitor in our corporate and commercial department, advising businesses across the full life cycle of their operations. His practice covers company incorporations, restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, and a wide range of corporate governance and transactional matters.

He supports clients in drafting bespoke articles of association, shareholder agreements and partnership agreements, and advises on insolvency issues, winding‑up procedures and financing arrangements. James also provides independent legal advice to corporate and personal guarantors and assists Multi Academy Trusts with conversions, funding agreements and contract reviews.

James has acted on a range of notable matters, including guiding clients through a contentious members’ voluntary liquidation to ensure compliance with directors’ duties, assisting a group company in securing a multi‑million‑pound facility agreement and advising on the associated security across the corporate group. He has also represented employees in an employee buy‑out, preparing the shareholders’ agreement and related cross‑option provisions.

Building strong relationships with clients is central to James’ approach. He works closely with SMEs and owner‑managed businesses across the Southwest, supporting them at every stage of their corporate development. With increasing investor interest in the region, James is committed to helping clients scale, plan strategically and achieve long‑term stability. He delivers clear, practical advice while taking a holistic view of how best to add value.

Outside of work, James enjoys spending time with his family and dogs by the water or on Dartmoor, and is partial to a game of football, padel or golf.
