Julian is an experienced civil litigator and is Head of our Contentious Probate team. Julian has worked at Wolferstans since 2016.

After leaving DHS, Julian obtained his LLB in 1999 at the University of Leeds and later obtained an LLM (Masters in Law) in 2002 at the University of New South Wales, in Sydney, Australia.

He was admitted in New South Wales in 2004 and worked in a medium-sized commercial and insurance firm in Sydney for 14 years, acting mainly for insurers in litigated disputes.

He returned to Plymouth in 2014 and was admitted in England and Wales in 2016 when he joined Wolferstans.

Julian works predominantly in the field of contentious probate and trusts disputes. He also acts in professional negligence and property ownership disputes.

Over the years, Julian has acted for a wide range of clients, from individuals to multinational insurers. He takes a practical, solution focused approach to the early resolution of disputes, fighting for the best outcome for his clients through a firm understanding of their needs and desired outcomes.

Julian is a full member of Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS) and is a trustee of a local charitable organisation. In 2026, Julian was awarded a STEP Excellence Award having achieved the highest mark worldwide in the STEP Advanced Certificate in Trust Disputes for 2025.

Due to his time in Australia, Julian also continues to act as UK agent for a number of Sydney law firms.

Outside of law, Julian is married to a DHS girl and has 2 young sons. He is a keen albeit past his prime squash and cricket player. He plays for the Cornwood 5th XI which in his view is a lot better standard than it sounds. He is a devoted Argyle fan. He enjoys the beach and kicking a ball about with his boys though chooses not to face their bowling anymore as it is too quick.
