£8 million compensation for NHS errors resulting in brain damage at birth, three cases in week

The High Court has approved a lump sum and annual payments to a child after an NHS Trust admitted liability for errors at his birth which resulted in severe brain injuries. The case, along with two more almost identical cases of clinical negligence concerning new-born babies, has resulted in NHS hospitals paying a total of more than £25 million compensation in one week.

Simon Parford, Partner and Head of the Medical Negligence Department said “There are still far too many babies who suffer brain damage at birth due to inadequate medical treatment. Although advances in neonatal care are helping to improve the long term outcome for those children, the mistakes shouldn’t happen in the first place.”
