The Queen’s Speech sets out the government’s legislative programme for the next year and it includes the Mesothelioma Bill

Her Majesty the Queen stated that ‘legislation will be introduced to ensure sufferers of a certain asbestos-related cancer receive payments where no liable employer or insurer can be found’.

The Mesothelioma bill was designed to help people who suffer from Mesothelioma as a result of exposure to asbestos. It is a scheme to provide compensation for those people who suffer with this disease and where the responsibility lies with their employer. This scheme is only available to those who were diagnosed after 25 July 2012.
