Our medical negligence team
Based in Plymouth, Wolferstans is one of the leading law firms in the South West, with a history going back to 1812. We have strong links throughout the local area, as well as regularly working with clients across England and Wales thanks to our strong reputation and exceptional legal expertise.
Our Medical Negligence department is headed by Elizabeth Smith, a Partner at the firm who has specialised exclusively in clinical negligence claims since 2003. Elizabeth is a member of the Law Society’s Clinical Negligence Specialist Panel and a Senior Litigator of APIL (Association of Personal Injury Lawyers). She is also an APIL accredited clinical negligence specialist.
With particular expertise in cerebral palsy claims, brain injury claims and spinal injury claims, Elizabeth offers the experience and skilled advocacy to achieve success under even the most challenging circumstances. She leads a team of highly skilled lawyers with broad experience across all types of medical negligence claims.
Our Medical Negligence Department also benefits from the experience and expertise of Simon Parford, a Wolferstans partner and the former Head of Clinical Negligence at the firm. Simon has worked in the field of clinical negligence since 1986 and has been consistently recognised over the years as a leading clinical negligence lawyer by both the Legal500 and Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession.
Simon is a member of the Clinical Negligence Specialist Panels of both The Law Society and Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA). He is also a Fellow of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) and one of only a handful of solicitors in the country to be accredited by APIL as both a clinical negligence specialist and a brain injury specialist.
Simon was recently shortlisted for the Clinical Negligence Lawyer of the Year at the Personal Injury Awards 2017.
Simon specialises in acting for children and adults who have suffered serious brain injuries, including clients who have cerebral palsy and other complex birth injuries.
Barry Bayley is another Wolferstans partner working in the Medical Negligence Department with over 25 years’ experience as a clinical negligence lawyer. Specialising in complex, high value brain injury claims and spinal injury claims, Barry is particularly well regarded for his work with children and young adults with cerebral palsy.
