Gemma is a Partner and the Head of our Wills and Probate team. Gemma is based at our Plymouth office, although meets with clients in both our Plympton and Plymstock branch offices.
Gemma graduated from the University of Plymouth with a LLB Honours law degree and subsequently studied the Legal Practice Course at the University of Exeter. Gemma completed her training contract with Woollcombe Yonge, a local law firm, and qualified as a solicitor in 2008. Once qualified, Gemma continued to specialise in private client work and remained with Woollcombe Yonge until June 2016, when she left to join Wolferstans as a Partner.
Gemma specialises in and can advise on a wide range of areas to include Wills; Probate applications; Administration of Estates; Lasting Powers of Attorney; Registration of Enduring Powers of Attorney; Business Lasting Powers of Attorney; Elderly Client and Trust Advice; Declarations of Trust and Inheritance Tax planning.
In addition to this, Gemma has experience in the following areas:
- Advising clients with children from previous marriages or relationships in relation to Property Trust Wills
- Advising Clients in relation to care homes fees and deprivation of assets legislation
- Administering the estate of someone who has passed away on behalf of beneficiaries, including charities; to include dealing with high net worth estates.
- Applying for Grants of Probate, including applying for the Grant to be re-sealed in another jurisdiction so that assets held there can be administered, as well as give advice in relation to domicile.
Gemma qualified as a full member of the Society for Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) in 2012 and is a fully accredited member of the Association of Lifetime Lawyers (ALL). In 2016, Gemma passed the ALL’s Older Client Care in Practice (OCCP) Award, which recognises experience in advising older and vulnerable clients.
Gemma is also part of the firm’s Green Group; a dedicated group of people from Wolferstans who are trying to making our business as environmentally friendly as possible, as well as educating those within our firm, and the wider community about steps we can take to help tackle the climate crisis.
In her spare time, Gemma enjoys walking her dog and spending family time at the beach; bodyboarding and building sandcastles!
