We have compiled our costs information relating to our Family and Divorce services on the relevant pages below:

Application for a grant of probate only, combined with setting up a property trust contained within a will:

This service has a standard fee estimate for our charges of £1500 plus VAT.

The following fees will be in addition:

  • Probate Court fees (£273 plus £1.50 per copy grant required)
  • Land registry fees for Office Copy Entries (if required) (£3 plus VAT per property)
  • Land Registry fees for registration of the Property Trust (from £20 dependent upon the value of the property. Some Land Registry fees may attract VAT).

Application for a grant of probate only, combined with an application for transferable nil rate band:

This service has a standard fee estimate for our charges of £1250 plus VAT. If an application is required urgently then we reserve the right to charge an additional fee for the urgency of the work.

The following fees will be in addition:

  • Probate Court fees (£273 plus £1.50 per copy grant required)
  • Land registry fees for Office Copy Entries (if required) (£3 plus VAT per property).
  • Fees for copy death certificates, marriage certificates etc (£11 for the first certificate)
  • Fees for a tracing agent (to be advised if required)

Application for a grant or probate, or letters of administration (non-taxable estate):

This service has a standard fee estimate of £995 plus VAT for our charges where there is a Will and the application is for a Grant of Probate. If an application is required urgently then we reserve the right to charge an additional fee for the urgency of the work. Our charges for an urgent application are usually £1350 plus VAT.

The following fees will be in addition:

  • Probate Court fees (£273 plus £1.50 per copy grant required)
  • Land registry fees for Office Copy Entries (if required) (£3 plus VAT per property).

Application for a grant of probate only (taxable estate):

This work is usually carried out on the basis of our hourly rates. However, we are able to offer a fixed fee if preferred.

The following fees will be in addition:

  • Probate Court fees (£273 plus £1.50 per copy grant required)
  • Land registry fees for Office Copy Entries (if required) (£3 plus VAT per property)
  • Inheritance tax. For an indication as to the likely Inheritance Tax charge please visit the Gov website

Full administration service:

We are able to offer a fee estimate based on the complexity of the estate, the value of the estate and the time we think it will take to deal with the administration of the estate. Other than a fee estimate, we also offer other options – for example, a fixed fee.

Hourly rates

The Wills and Trust Department current hourly rates range between £125 and £275 per hour plus VAT depending upon the level of seniority and experience of the team member. It will be usual that during the course of an estate administration that work will be carried out at different hourly rates to ensure that the work is carried out as cost effectively for you as possible.
