Operation Close Pass – Cycle Safety
- Posted on in Personal Injury
On Tuesday 11 July 2017 Devon and Cornwall Police and Dorset Police Alliance launched Operation Close Pass. An initiative designed to improve the safety of cyclists on our roads.
What is Operation Close Pass? The aim is to educate drivers on how to safely overtake cyclists. The initiative also intends to encourage drivers and cyclists to have regard for one another on the roads.
The safe passing distance for a car to overtake a cyclist is a minimum of 1.5 metres. The police are using the educational mat shown below to educate drivers at the road side.
