Women who fear they may have been injured by Rob Jones, gynaecologist formerly employed by the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) can now ask for their treatment to be investigated under a protocol which has been agreed between the Trust and the solicitors acting for patients who might have been maltreated by him in the last 20 years.

Mr Jones was suspended from the Trust in May 2012 following an enquiry by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists who identified a number of serious concerns about his practices. This included a higher than average rate of complications associated with key-hole surgery performed by Mr Jones, the surgeon who hit the headlines in 2010 when he delivered the Samantha Cameron's youngest child Florence in 2010.

Having voluntarily removed himself from the medical register in October 2012, the Trust announced that it would be undertaking a clinical review of the notes of over 2,000 women who had been treated by Mr Jones in the 2.5 years prior to his departure.

The agreed protocol will allow any women who has received treatment from Mr Jones between 1992-2012 to have an independent expert review of their care, and if negligence is identified, then a swift process for the agreement of compensation of up to £250,000 will follow.
