Dying Matters Awareness Week 13-19 May

Dying Matters Awareness Week 13-19 May

The charity Dying Matters, holds an awareness week in May each year and this year’s theme is “Are We Ready?”.

It’s a great starting point for us to talk to our friends and relatives about the care we would want to receive at the end of our life and a reminder to get our plans in place.

Benjamin Franklin coined the phrase “…in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes”. However, whilst many of us have no qualms about discussing tax, death is often a taboo subject. The way we live and die means that, often, conversations about death, our wishes and the legal affairs and decisions relating to it, can be avoided for years.

A staggering 42% of UK adults haven’t made a Will and many more are without Lasting Powers of Attorney. When we see clients to discuss preparing these documents and their wishes, thoughts and plans for their end of life care, they have often delayed thinking about those things for a long time, fearing that talking about death or ill health will hasten it. Few of us don’t have these worries but, as with many things in life, once you start the conversation, you’ll often find that it’s not as awful to talk about as you might have first thought.

So, Are YOU ready or do you need to start the conversation?

Wolferstans are holding a free event as part of the Dying Matters awareness week in conjunction with St Luke’s Hospice. There will be the opportunity to hear from lots of people and organisations who can give you information, support and advice about dying, death and bereavement. We will also be on hand to provide you with information about Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney and we will be offering an exclusive discount voucher for these services to those who attend.

Please drop in on Thursday 16th May from 10am to 3pm at the Astor Room in Plymouth Guildhall.

For further information, speak to a member of our Wills and Probate Team.
