New Chair of Forces Law

New Chair of Forces Law

As a Plymouth firm, throughout our 207 year history Wolferstans has always been proud to support the Armed Forces Community . Not only do we provide legal advice to the Armed Forces Community we also employ veterans , service family members and reservists. As the first law firm in the UK to be awarded the Gold Award under the MOD Armed Forces covenant employer recognition scheme , the link with Forces Law has ensured that we can work nationally with other firms who specialise in Armed Forces work to ensure that the Armed Forces Community receive the specialist and expert advice they deserve.

Wolferstans Solicitors are very proud to be a member of the Forces Law network. The network has been established for over 20 years with the focus being on it’s members providing legal advice to our Armed Forces community no matter where they are.

The Forces Law call centre in Portsmouth received over 1400 new enquiries during 2018-2019. With 12 member firms, Forces Law can provide free initial legal advice on any matter to service personnel, reservists, veterans and all their families. By empowering the service user with the necessary information, they can make informed decisions at an early stage of their legal matter and may have increased options available to them.

All members are invited to training days twice yearly to receive additional training on matters affecting service personnel and veterans. In addition, we listen to presentations from various armed forces charities, learning how the charities can help our clients and how we can help their beneficiaries.

For the first time, Wolferstans Solicitors have taken the role of Chair Person; our Armed Forces Co-ordinator, Trainee Solicitor and Royal Navy Veteran Natasha Mason, takes the Forces Law helm.

Natasha served 19 years as a rating in the Royal Navy before a medical discharge ended her career in 2013.

Natasha says, “Four years into my legal career, I am truly privileged to take charge of the Network. Over the years, its support to our armed forces community has grown from strength to strength. Our members are supporting more and more military charities and working with them to provide assistance to their beneficiaries where required. It is an incredible journey that has bought me here and I am proud to lead a Legal Network that support the armed forces family that I will always belong to”.

This years Annual Forces Law Dinner took place at the Union Jack Club in London where members dined with representatives from several charities including SSAFA, RNRMC, ABF and Help for Heroes.

In her spare time, Natasha is an Ambassador for Help for Heroes Band of Brothers, a Poppy Appeal Organiser, Royal Navy Association Veteran Mentor, and leads the Admin committee of the Plymouth Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club.
