Moving Mountains for The Mustard Tree

Moving Mountains for The Mustard Tree

Every now and again, you meet someone who touches your life like very few can. That was our Sharon, who we sadly lost back in October 2022.

Since joining Wolferstans in August 2010, Sharon was the glue that held our Business Services team together. Her paralegal and admin skills were matched by her warmth and kindness. Sharon welcomed new team members, mentored the young, and supported the old. Her deep and long-lasting friendships were a testament to her unwavering loyalty and generosity. When Sharon called you a legend, you felt like a legend.

When you needed to have a chat with Sharon, you knew she would listen without judgment, giving you her unfettered attention and always gave advice that was in your best interests.

Sharon was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in March 2019. Her diagnosis hit us all like a ton of bricks. She underwent treatment after treatment, had periods of remission, but ultimately, despite her strength and determination, and the love and support around her, she passed away on 20 October 2022.

Sharon never ever lost her positivity; even at St Luke’s Hospice, she told a teary colleague and I to stop being such “wusses” as we both held her hand, utterly broken-hearted. That was so Sharon. Thinking of us, not herself. An amazing woman.

So Sharon has left us in a physical sense, but her spirit and memory will always live on. Throughout her fight with cancer, Sharon and her family were supported by The Mustard Tree Macmillan Cancer Support & Information Centre at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

To honour her and support others who are affected by cancer, we have chosen Mustard Tree as our Charity of the Year for 2023. We are organising a series of fundraising events throughout the year, with the main event being less than 2 months away.

Ben Nevis Trek – fundraising for The Mustard Tree

Between 4 to 7 May 2023, a group of colleagues who worked closely with Sharon - Julian Burrows, James Twine, Pippa Tanner-Wood, Sam Porritt, Mara Cunha, Paige Bartlett, Jack Harvey, and Holly Bowditch - will be climbing Ben Nevis to raise funds for Mustard Tree. Our aim is to raise over £3,000 for the charity.

We invite you to support our courageous team in this endeavour. If you would like to donate, please do so through our Just Giving page and indicate 'Ben Nevis' in the comments if you're supporting this event.

Let us honour Sharon's memory and make a meaningful contribution to a worthy cause.
